KRBC has Long Swim in fermentation, Eureka brings Nitro Merlin back, this time with more cookies, Berlinersfield with Passion Fruit drops at Dionysus and more On Tap This Week.
Wednesday 2/8 – The weekly Steal the Glass event over at Eureka Burger starts at 6 pm. This week features Nitro Velvet Merlin Milk Stout by Firestone Walker. Expect to see a cookie paired with this delicious beer like we saw last year. This year they are doubling up on the cookies but if it’s anything like last year’s version, the glassware and cookies will go fast. Stay tuned to Eureka’s Instagram for more info.
Wednesday 2/8 –Wednesday is Flights and Bites night at Moo Creamery. The pairing starts at 4 pm and goes until 9 pm. The lineup has not been finalized yet. Moo will post it on their social media sometime this week.
Saturday 2/11 – Another public bottle release is happening this Saturday at Dionysus Brewing. From noon to close they will be pouring the newest version of Berlinersfield. This version of their Berliner Weisse is aged with passion fruit and fermented with brettanomyces yeast and lactobacillus bacteria. Bottles will be available for sale with a 3 bottle per person limit while supplies last.

Mash Time – A Brewing Podcast – A local station for discussing home brewing and craft beer, hosted by Stuart Hoetker and John Agee out of Bakersfield CA. Episode 13 features Andres Maya who brings in a few East Coast beers for critiquing and joins the discussion on home brewing basics. Guest host Kenny Elmore from IPA Today joins to interject with copious amounts of inappropriate jokes.
IPA Today Podcast – A local podcast critiquing beers and wasting time. Hosted by Kenny and Richie with frequent appearances by Uncle Frank and Joey. Garage Talk is the title of episode 28; billed as a retrospective of the past weeks and a look at the year ahead. It’s an entertaining episode even without the obligatory spiral out of control, train wreck ending. To quote Richie: “Enjoy”.

Short and Sweet (or Sour)
Kern River Brewing Company’s brewer, Adrian Barrera recently collaborated with Mike Mraz and Torey Philipp of Mraz Brewing to create an imperial IPA called Slackpacker. Brewed with Citra and El Dorado hops this beer comes in at 8.4% ABV and will be available at San Francisco Beer week and all over the Sacramento and Bay Area. Fresh KRBC bottles of Hop Nookie TIPA should start showing up around town this week and of course, Citra DIPA bottles are available up at the brewery for those that pre-purchased their cases. Citra is on tap at the brewery now as well as Hazy Citra DIPA, Class X BA Stout, Class X BA Stout on Nitro and Fishing in the Dark Coffee Stout with BirdRock Coffee from San Diego. Just brewed and coming to a tap handle at the brewery soon is the highly coveted, newish seasonal DIPA, Long Swim! It just went in the fermenter on Wednesday so I don’t think we will see it on tap until later this month. If you’re heading south this coming weekend, KRBC will at Brewbies Fest in San Diego on Saturday the 11th where their marketing manager Jillian Buccola and cellar-woman Emily will be pouring Pink River Booby (River Buddy Pale Ale renamed for the event) and Citra DIPA. If you’re going North you can get your KRBC fix as well. Brewers Adrian Barrera and Shaun Morgan will be at The Bistro IPA Fest (the original SF Beer Week kick off) in Hayward on the 11th with an as of yet undecided DIPA and TIPA.
Going on tap in the next couple of weeks at Dionysus Brewing is a new version of Hazy Mazzy IPA. The previous version of this New England-inspired IPA only lasted 14 days so I would expect the same with this one. For this double dry hopped iteration, the Dio guys used lots of Columbus, El Dorado, and Mosaic hops. Expect to see Hazy Mazzy on tap this week.
Lengthwise Brewing has six packs of Citra-Simcoe Centennial Ale in 12 oz. bottles and four packs of Zeus Imperial Ale in 12 oz. bottles available at all three locations. New beers on tap at all three locations are West Coast Brown Ale and White IPA.
Spirit Walker Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout by Temblor Brewing will be released on Wednesday the 8th at the brewery.
Local Craft Beer recently released Make Love in Red Bottoms DIPA. This year’s version has been dry hopped and I can confirm it tastes delicious! Expect to see it showing up around town at the usual spots (Eureka, Bootleggers, Moo, etc.). It’s also available at the brewery.
G.M. Liquor has the Belching Beaver line on the shelves. Also available are Founders Brewing Frootwood Cherry Ale aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels and Alpine Beer Company Windows Up IPA.
Head to Imbibe Wine and Spirits for fresh cans of Pizza Port Brewing Shark Bite Red Ale, Swami’s IPA and Kook DIPA. Also available: super fresh El Segundo Brewing Power Plant TIPA, KRBC River Buddy Pale Ale, Unsung Brewing Naturia DIPA and a bunch of other new bottles too numerous to list.
Save Mart also has fresh cans of the Pizza Port standard line, Founders Brewing Frootwood Cherry Ale aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels and the Belching Beaver line as well.
Tickets for the 3rd Annual Country and Craft Beer Festival will be available Tuesday, February 7th at all three Lengthwise locations (cash only) and are available now at their website: countrycraftbeer.com. The event will be held April 1st at Central Park at Mill Creek.
