I’m back. Even mediocre beer bloggers need a week off sometimes.

Whiskey Galore will be standing on table tops at LCB Tehachapi, Johnny Garlic’s lets Firestone Walker take over, Moo Creamery and Wine Me Up! have Modern Times, and more On Tap This Week.

Friday 3/17Local Craft Beer Tehachapi is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a party featuring local Celtic band Whiskey Galore! Drinking songs, kilts, bagpipes, standing on tables, and general rowdiness ensues at a Whiskey show. It’s always a good time. For this event, the parking lot will be fenced off and outfitted with plenty of space heaters. There will be food, catered by a local butcher shop and delicious beer provided by LCB. The party starts at noon with the opening act going on at 7 pm.

Drink Like a Local

Catching up with our local breweries.

On March 16th, Temblor Brewing is releasing Perkins’ Pale, a Belgian Pale Ale collaboration with Absolution Brewing and Jane’s Addiction drummer, Stephen Perkins. This will be available in 22 oz. bottles and on tap. KISS DIPA is the newest One Hit Wonder on tap at the brewery and Streets of Bakersfield IPA bombers should be showing up on shelves around town this week.

Hazzy Mazzy NE inspired IPA, Dank Street IPA, and Mango Street IPA are all back on tap at Dionysus Brewing. They also have cold brewed coffee, Barrel Aged Super Funkadelic, and Berlinersfield Passion Fruit as well as others on tap.

Lengthwise hosted an amazing event last Saturday called Meet Your Brewer. All of our local breweries were their pouring beer and chatting with guests. The crowd filled the brewery area of the new Lengthwise location and everyone was having a great time. The event was put on by the Active 2030 club and was billed as a pre-party for this year’s Country and Craft Beer Festival. The organizers hinted at another Meet Your Brewer event sometime in the fall and you won’t want to miss it. I’ll post about it as soon as I have more info.

Igor Unchained Russian Imperial Stout, the first of Kern River Brewing Company’s Wild and Scenic Series was recently bottled and waxed. These bottles are only available at the brewery as of now. Two new beers are currently on tap at the brewery: Wave Train IPA and Bombogenesis IPA with pineapple, coconut, and apricot. Head to the KRBC (newly updated) website and check out their merchandise. A new slate of shirts, hats and more are available for purchase just in time for their next photo contest called “Apparel in Action”. Take a photo wearing their swag doing something active, post it to social media, and tag #KRBCoutside. The winner will be announced April 1st and KRBC will donate $100 to the charity of the winner’s choice. The top 5 runners-up will be featured on their website.

Local Craft Beer Tehachapi will be bottling a new version of The Haze is Real DIPA to release at the end of the month. The Juice is Real is in the fermenter for an upcoming draft selection. Also in the fermenter about to go into barrels is a crazy high ABV coffee stout collaboration with Eureka Burger. They are expecting this thing to ring in at 15 – 20%! The end result will be on tap exclusively at ten select Eureka Burger restaurants. I have a feeling ours will get one. Another beer coming up soon from LCB is “It’s Hyuge” NE TIPA.

Do You Even Brew?

Stuff about home brewing.

March 21st is the next homebrew meeting at Temblor Brewing at 6 pm. All are welcome. Bring a bottle of your home brew to share and come ready to socialize and meet other local home brewers.

Short and Sweet (or Sour)

All the stuff I didn't include above.

Orval Day is March 25th at Imbibe Wine and Spirits. Orval Belgian Pale Ale is a world renowned, highly rated beer brewed and bottle-conditioned at Notre Dame d’Orval Monastery that is considered “as close to brewing perfection as you can get”. In addition to its many accolades and high praise from beer geeks and brewers around the world, this beer’s origins go back pretty far. There’s a crazy story about a trout and a wedding ring you should check out. Go here to learn more about this beer or head to Imbibe and ask Kevin about the story. Between now and the 25th buy three bottles of Orval to get a really cool Orval Chalice and experience this storied brew at Imbibe.

Bakersfield Beer Company is shooting for a May opening. They’ve posted photos on Facebook of the paint going up and a really cool window sticker full of hops and their logo. Follow them on Facebook for up to date info.

Lots of fresh new local beers are showing up on the shelves of local bottle shops. Save Mart, Imbibe, G.M. Liquor, Oak Market & Liquor, Verdugo Market, Sully’s, and others have a glut of good stuff to choose from. Some of the beers are KRBC Long Swim, KRBC River Buddy, Tioga-Sequoia Valley Haze, Tioga-Sequoia Tecumseh, Lengthwise Rye IPA, Lengthwise Zeus and Citra-Simcoe in 12 oz. bottles, Local Craft Beer Snobs, Temblor Hollow Body, Temblor Diamond Dogs, Firestone Walker Luponic Distortion 005, and Firestone Walker Fortem.
