Catching up with our local breweries.

Local Craft Beer Tehachapi is expanding! Once fully operational, their new 15 bbl fermenter will be dedicated to canning. Their first can release will be a collaboration with Dionysus Brewing, mashing up Dio’s Cloud Juice and one of LCB’s NE is Real recipes. The beer named, The Cloud Juice is Real AF, is scheduled for release Friday, August 11th. With the increased capacity we can look forward to new bombers in distribution and different 16oz. can releases every 3 weeks! Also, Snobs Gold goes on tap this week at the brewery, 10 Haze Commandments gets bottled on Tuesday, and The Passion of the Juice is fermenting.

Hiccup Pale Ale by Lengthwise Brewing has been modified a bit. The new recipe uses pilsner hops for the base with Simcoe hops in the boil and Idaho 7 for dry hopping. Brewer, Kyle Smith said he used Idaho 7 to give it some dankness. New on tap at the brewery is their Session IPA with 50/50 2-row barley and pilsner malt, Mosaic and Lemon Drop in the kettle then dry hopped with Lemon Drop and Simcoe for a piney finish.

New at Temblor Brewing on Monday is One Hit Wonder Zero IBU IPA. To make this beer, no hops were added to the boil. Cascade and Mount Hood hops were late additions, added at 0 minutes. On Tuesday Streets of Bakersfield IPA will be available in cans at the brewery and late in the week around town where you buy Temblor brews. On Thursday Bourbon Barrel Aged Pierce Road Oatmeal Stout that was aged for 16 months is being released at the brewery.

For Your Ears

Podcasts are the future of entertainment (said someone in 2004).

Mash Time – A Brewing Podcast – A local station for discussing home brewing and craft beer, hosted by Stuart Hoetker and John Agee out of Bakersfield CA. Episode 20 see’s the triumphant return of co-host John and special guest, Sean Vansickel a local brewer, adept in the art of bottle conditioning for his second appearance on the show. Stuart juggles mic work and brewing duties as they attempt a stout with bananas in the mash.

IPA Today Podcast – A local podcast critiquing beers and wasting time. Hosted by Kenny and Richie with frequent appearances by Uncle Frank and Joey. Episode 45 is up. Joey and I join Kenny and Richie for an East Coast vs. West Coast IPA showdown. Then the show goes downhill as it usually does, but that’s why you like it.

The Perfect Pour Podcast – Check out this Fresno-based craft beer podcast that recently hit 200 episodes. Hosted by Nick, Matt, and Mikey with bumper music by Sunburns, their content certainly has a Fresno focus but there’s lots of relevant beer talk, beer tasting, beer news, listener voicemails, and the occasional beer celebrity guest. It’s a well-executed, organized podcast that is entertaining and informative. Episode 204 goes deeper into this year’s Beer Camp, does some beer hunting on HBO’s Silicon Valley, has a near life-changing voicemail, and lots more. Keep up the good work guys.

Bakersfield Beer Blogging

An elite society, currently consisting of three.

The Local MashA blog about the Author’s adventures in fermentation, beer brewing, and commercial beer reviews. Follow him on Facebook for updates. Check out The Local Mash on Instagram and the new Suggested Links section. He recently reviewed the new Hiccup Pale Ale recipe from Lengthwise Brewing.

L.A. Ramos – Follow this local beer reviewer on Instagram. The vids are short, entertaining, and informative. His enthusiasm for the beer he’s drinking is infectious and makes you want to run out and grab one. A good portion of the beers he’s reviewed are available locally so it’s certainly a good resource. Check out L.A. Ramos and his nice wood fence. Thanks for “getting us faded”!

Drink all the beers, four ounces at a time.

All the stuff I didn't include above.

I normally don’t post about ticket to purchase beers but this one caught my eye. Not only is this a collaboration between two great California breweries, Noble Ale Works and Fieldwork Brewing, but the can art is seriously cool. Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! has never looked so good! Jump in the waiting room for this beer on Wednesday the 21st at 3:30 pm on Eventbrite to get a four pack or two of PUNCH-OUT!! DIPA.

I’m sure there is plenty more to talk about that I missed. Send me a message if you have something that needs to be included next week or have a beer related event you want to promote.
