Beer For Your Ears
Podcasts are the future of entertainment (said someone in 2004).
Mash Time – A Brewing Podcast – A local station for discussing home brewing and craft beer, hosted by Stuart Hoetker and John Agee out of Bakersfield CA. Episode 21 is an intimate after brew day discussion with John and Kenny from IPA Today.
IPA Today Podcast – A local podcast critiquing beers and wasting time. Hosted by Kenny and Richie with frequent appearances by Uncle Frank and Joey. Episode 56 is part two of the Port Brewing Company and powerlifting cast.
I’m Not Kevin Podcast – A podcast with a focus on stories and random talk with friends and family hosted by Shawn, an average guy from California. They usually drink beer and occasionally talk about beer. Check them out and give a listen. Episode 22 is a recorded live broadcast with IPA Today at Local Craft Beer Tehachapi! With Richie currently on tour with Beyoncé as a backup dancer and keyboardist, Joey steps in to co-host. Shawn, Kenny, and Joey are joined by me and some special guests from the brewery for a great time and a little bit of beer talk.
The Perfect Pour Podcast – Check out this Fresno based craft beer podcast that recently hit 200 episodes. Hosted by Nick, Matt, and Mikey with bumper music by Sunburns, their content certainly has a Fresno focus but there’s lots of relevant beer talk, beer tasting, beer news, listener voicemails, and the occasional beer celebrity guest. It’s a well-executed, organized podcast that is entertaining and informative. In Episode 217 Matt talks about his experience at the California Craft Beer Summit in Sacramento.
Bakersfield Beer Blogging
An elite society, currently consisting of three.
The Local Mash – A blog about the Author’s adventures in fermentation, beer brewing and commercial beer reviews. Follow him on Facebook for updates. Check out The Local Mash on Instagram and the new Suggested Links section. Check out his most recent post: Three Offering From Bravery Brewing Co.
L.A. Ramos – Follow this local beer drinker on Instagram. His recommendation vids are short, entertaining, and informative. His enthusiasm for the beer he’s drinking is infectious and makes you want to run out and grab one. A good portion of the beers he’s reviewed are available locally so it’s certainly a good resource. Check out L.A. Ramos and his nice wood fence. His most recent post features Tired Hands and Mikkeller collaboration Holographic #1 Kolsch.
Ellen’s Beer & Things Blog – I just recently discovered this local beer blog with the tag line: Just a girl that loves beer and writing about it. Ellen has been blogging since the spring, writing fun and entertaining easy reads. Her posts are concise and well written with topics ranging from choosing Beer or Ice Cream to a touching story of saying goodbye to her K9 drinking buddy Pepper. Check out her most recent post detailing her experience at KRBC’s recent beer pairing dinner.

How to Read My Blog
There’s only one way.
Some of you may know by now that I “usually” post to my blog (what you just finished reading) on Sunday afternoon/evening and link it to my social media accounts. That post may include: what events are going on around town the following week (steal the glass, tap takeover, bottle releases, etc.), local brewery updates, local podcast and blog updates, upcoming festivals, some of the packaged beers available around town and other general local and occasional national/regional beer stuff (depending on how long I can devote to researching and writing). I also usually post on social media on the day of each event as a reminder. I’ve started to include a cost identifier at the end of each event post. Here’s how to read that: $25 = cost of the event, $PINT or $POUR = cost of a pint or pour for steal the glass or similar event, $50/$100 = cost of the event with different ticket options. This is how it works for now. Expect change though, it’s inevitable… Thanks for reading.
I’m sure there is plenty more to talk about that I missed. Send me a message if you have something that needs to be included next week or have a beer related event you want to promote.
