Short and Sweet (or Sour)
Yesterday was the Bacon and Craft Beer Festival and the event was, as usual, well executed. The home brew tent was a hit with a huge board full of local home brews from some of the best local home brewers. There were some great exclusive beers from local breweries like Dionysus Milk the Funk #2, Tioga Sequoia Bourbon Bacon Maple Autumus, Temblor Bourbon Barrel Beggars Banquet and others, lots of delicious bacon dishes from local restaurants and some cool vendors pedaling their wares. Walter Craft Beer Salts was one of those vendors and they were handing out samples of their craft beer infused salts. I was seriously impressed with the flavors they had and I can’t wait to try it at home. If you didn’t get a chance to try it at the festival don’t worry, they are planning more tasting events around town and I’ll post about them here soon.
The next local craft beer festival is the Country & Craft Beer Festival coming up on April 1st 2017 at Mill Creek Park downtown. Save the date.
More delays for Moo Creamery’s new tap system. In an effort to make sure it’s set up right, Moo has run into a couple of hiccups getting the new system set. As of now they don’t want to commit to a first pour date but rest assured, as soon as I hear any news from Kim, I’ll post it here.
In collaboration news: On Tuesday I broke the news on ontapbakersfield.com that Lengthwise and Dionysus were joining up to brew their first collaboration beer; a Barrel-Aged Dry Hopped Tart Saison.
Now I have another Exclusive Collaboration Announcement! I’ve confirmed from both breweries that Dionysus will be joining up with Local Craft Beer out of Tehachapi for two collaboration brews! First they are going to be doing a Long-Aged Barrel Fermented Sour. While that spends some time in barrels they will be brewing an IPA. Once the specifics are set I’ll write about it here.
Local Craft Beer is also going to be doing a collaboration beer with Transplant Brewing Company in Palmdale. It will be a pineapple XPA that will be available at both breweries and hopefully (cross your fingers) somewhere here in Bakersfield.
Bakersfield Beer Company, a new local bottle shop, is getting closer to opening their doors! They recently secured a spot conveniently located two doors down from Dionysus Brewing Company. If all goes well, they are expecting to open up sometime in the spring of 2017.
Kern River Brewing Company recently release the bottle and can art for their new pale ale River Buddy.
